Information overload
Every day, information is being disseminated to us in many ways ranging from the old-fashioned newspaper to the instantly available World Wide Web – the Internet. Like it or not, information is there in every corner of this world, it reaches those who yearn for it and passes by those who are simply ignorance enough.
My parents were very encouraging when it comes to reading; we visited the library once or twice every month. I believe this is one of the reasons why the habit was built and gradually turned into writing as a means to share.
Having said that information is readily available, the fact that retrieving it might not be that easy as one thinks. What we are actually facing now is INFORMATION OVERLOAD. On one hand we have the email, World Wide Web, e-books, e-journals and CD-ROMS on the other hand we have newspapers, magazines, journals, reference books and encyclopedias.

Information is just like our friends or people we know. We store them in our head or phonebook or address book so that we can one day retrieve it. As we always get to meet with new people, it is the same with information. Rings any resemblance?
As I am now analyzing my results and writing the thesis, I make it a point to document the journals I have read or other relevant references in a proper manner so that I don’t mess up later. Suffice to say, I am now facing the information overload condition. There’s just too much to be stored in my head and on my scribbled piece of paper.
I just don’t want to die “vomiting” information like what happens to drug overdosed. I hope this all will be over very soon.
PS: Packing my stuffs for my Gunung Jerai trip this weekend. So freaking puffed up now.
St Paul Primary School – Class 6 Green – 2010 Reunion
This post, like it or not, has to be up before it goes non topical. I wonder if I have ever talked about my school, but heck, told or not told, it's good to give a recap - for the sake of history keeping when I look back at my old posts again when I am old one day.
Back in the 90s, parents would send their kids to one of the few primary schools in Kuching where one can get a good learn of the Mandarin language. The schools are SRB Chung Hua No.4, SRB St Paul, SRB Chung Hua No.2, just to name a few hot-schools. Here, I was in SRB St Paul.
You may ask, "What's SRB"? The fact that schools in Sarawak use the designation SRK/SRB (Sekolah Rendah Kerajaan/Bantuan) and SMK/SMB (Sekolah Menengah Kerajaan/Bantuan) instead of labelling them "Cina" or "Tamil", as most schools in Peninsula Malaysia do, is a portray of education is for all notwithstanding skin colour or what one's mother tounge is. We Sarawakians knew that when we were young.
Fourteen years, after leaving school in 1996, here we are again. Only twelve of us made it out of the fourty plus we know. The rest are either working overseas, migrated, or away for a trip. It was a great moment in Starbucks, The Spring. We did a lot of catch up on everyone's where about, gossiping about others who weren't there.

Seated (from left): Chia Chin, Chia Yen, Mee Mee, Ting Ting, Eileen, Su Khim.
Standing (from left): Jin Leong, Benjamin, Daniel, Nyuk Fong, Ai Min, Yin Fang.

It was just too crowded at Starbucks, we decided to take our gathering to another level where we can have a good chat. Su Kim, a mum of two girls, offered her semi-detached house. I tell you, HER HOUSE IS REALLY HUGE. Damn admiring and envious I am for a house like that.

I must say that most of my classmates look pretty (should have courted them back then). Haha.

Here's another for remembrance. All these wonderful moment was of course captured by Jin Leong. Without him, there won't be this post at all. Just for your reference, he's a free lance photographer - taking wedding reception shots or liaising with part time models. (Can contact me for more information)

Before I conclude, I only knew that quite a lot of us are working in KL. Should make more such gatherings. If, by chance, you stumbled upon my blog and happens to be from Class 6 Green of SRB St Paul in 1996, please feel free to drop me a buzz. We need to keep the ball rolling.
PS: I've decided to break away from my previous layout of the Thesis theme (forged version, I just knew that). I'll stick with this one until I can make USD 87 to buy the original theme.
Lesson learned from the highway
Was driving on the highway and stuck among hundreds of cars as I was queueing to pay for the toll. In and around Kuala Lumpur, along the toll stations you will find several cash lanes, one or two Touch N' Go lanes, and another one or two Smart Tag lanes serving the needs of motorists.
I have this electronic card - Touch N' Go, which I load it with value whenever the balance is low. With my card the speed of paying for toll is enhanced and it is rather convenient because no longer do I need to prepare for small change or wait in queue at the cash lane to complete the transaction.
Imagine the queue on the three lanes, namely: cash lane, Touch N' Go lane and Smart TAG lane all equally long. Assuming that transaction at each lane takes 10 seconds, 6 seconds and 2 seconds respectively per motorist, at the end of the queue the cummulative effect can be very obvious. Apart from that, without a Touch N' Go or Smart TAG, I should just stop dreaming of crossing to the specially dedicated lane even though it is empty.
Somehow, this made me realise that in this world, where everyone wants to get to their destination, nothing comes for free. In the context of toll system, if only I have a Smart TAG, I will be able to reach my destination a lot faster, but of course, with a price to pay.
If you think about having an easy life or doesn't mind at all with doing petty stuffs, the cash lane is definitely for you. If you think making an effort to load a card with cash every now is much better than queueing, the Touch N' Go lane is for you. If you want a faster way out, spend some money to buy the Smart TAG device and have it loaded with value. Hola! You are faster than everyone else.
You and I have something to achieve, be it climbing the corporate ladder or achieving financial freedom. You can choose to take the easy way out, which doesn't take you anywhere, or get on the fast track by paying a price. What I want to say here is that to be ahead of everyone else, some form of sacrifice is often necessary.
I also want to stress that knowing the right person and knowing the right tool to do the work, dreams are possible.
