W3Garden – The Malaysian Blog Showcase

Out of the blue, a platform has been built by some dedicated someone to showcase some of Malaysia's top blogs. This time around comes W3Garden.com which is a site compiling the best blogs written by Malaysians.

W3Garden

If you would notice hard enough, the intersection of the 6th column and 3rd row is something that you might find familiar. I confess I have nothing to do with this, I am not that narcissistic to showcase my blog. To whoever you are who took your time to put my blog on W3Garden.com, I really must thank you. This is the best Christmas present you've given me. If you are reading this, I hope you will reply to this post.

Anyway, I know not how this website came about. From what I am able to gather, in the About section of the website, it is written:

W3Garden, the Malaysia Blog showcase. The listed blog are not associated with W3Garden, picked based on originality, unique and identity. Proceed to submit for a review. You can submit for others too.

W3Garden - Daniel Liew

Life is great! Blogging is great too! Having you all to fuel this blog is certainly great!

PS: My parents are in KL now. I've got to spend more time with them as they'll be leaving for Kuching on Tuesday.

Financially burdened civil servant embarrasses the civil service

This issue was hotly debated among my colleagues a few days ago during lunch. We read this particular letter written by a "pegawai gawat" - a financially burdened civil servant to Berita Harian carrying the title "Gaji Lambat Masuk Membebankan" which roughly translates to "Late Salary Burdens" with disbelief.

I would like to share the story, the so-called plight, of this civil servant. Sadly, Berita Harian has taken down this letter from its online portal, but thanks to Google's cache that I managed to retrieve the original copy.

Read on... The original excerpt is in bold while my comments are in italic.

Gaji lambat masuk membebankan

Sarubobo from Japan

“Konnichiwa!” from my little red Sarubobo, an amulet my senior technical assistant bought me from Japan. She went to Takayama, a city located in Gifu, Japan. It certainly is very sweet of her for remembering me despite being thousand miles away. She told me that this red sarubobo is a charm for good marriage, good children and to well-rounded couple. Well, just something which I am not prepared for now.

Just like any family in Takayama, a grandmother will make sarubobos for their daughters as charms, and for their grandchildren as dolls. The sarubobo is associated with three wishes; protection from bad things, a happy home and a good match, and having an easy delivery on birth.

See this sarubobo? It doesn't have facial features. According to folks of Takayama, there was no need for sarubobos to be completely accurate as in the ancient days sarubobos were made of left over cloth and made by relatives. Another reason is that an empty face allows the owner, in this case, me to imagine it. Cool huh?

There was once, a girl gave me an amulet that smelled so nice, she bought it from Taiwan. I hung it on my pencil case, weeks after that it got dirty and the fragrance faded. It also started falling apart in less than a year. Afraid that I am going to lose this cute thing again, I won't hang it any more.

Ok. Excuse me for taking so much of your time talking about sarubobo. XD
